Get a map
« on: December 13, 2009, 09:24:54 AM »
Ok I talked to a g.warden yesterday and we were just strictly talking deer numbers in the oak creek and rimrock areas and he started giving me a speech( I hunt 380, so I could care less) anyway, he said that "all these hunters wanna hunt the same spot, nobody wants to get a map or talk to landowners to see if there is access to a more private area, god-forbid you might have to walk some to get away from other hunters, so until that happens, they are gonna be lined up at gates, and in a sea of orange" lol this guy was funny, anyway, is it really that bad out there? And if it is, why in the world would u wanna hunt that? I'd take his advice and talk to some people and get a map. Is it that bad in these areas?

Rarely are the Yakima areas, save the LT Murray and Mud Lake, a sea of orange. Maybe in comparison to the deer numbers there seems to be a lot of orange. I haven't hunted around here since deer numbers plumeted after 2005.

During Modern deer season- I stay well away from public property. I tried goldendale about ten years ago and it sounded like a war zone for about the first half hour. I have also hunted the Yacolt burn and lots of orange but a guy can still find little areas to hunt. Now that I am on the east side I did make it down to Revere during the modern season and it was sick. One old dirt road lined with rigs. I'll stick to archery and muzzle loading.

Yeah, I tend to think wherever there is public land, its gonna be crazy, and that's not anybodys fault, but I would think, one season of that and it would be enough to do some homework so you can get away from all the people, maybe not completley but a little

Man, I hunt the methow, and I hunted 6 days of the modern  season and saw three hunters the whole time, and that was when I went way down low, where I spent most my time, I don't think I have ever seen another hunter.

Two seasons I backpacked to the end of a remote ridge in Okanogan county, didn't see any hunters.  I saw two two points and maybe ten does in those two seasons.  Over by the road, where I parked my truck, they were killing bucks left and right!  Seems the habitat is better for deer where the road goes through, so I hunt there now.  I saw two three points and missed a shot at a four point this year.  Frustrating to miss, but a little better hunting and seeing game.

One elk season we backpacked to what we thought was a remote spot, but come opening morning we had about two dozen guys hunt through our spot.  I think there a quite a few who see a roadless area and decide to hunt it and find many others had the same idea.

Ya, we backpack in as well, though I saw close to 70 deer well hunting this season.
